This year has been one of the toughest in my career. After leaving my previous role in August, I thought it would be easy to find a new gig. It took over a month just to land an interview. I was constantly tweaking my resume and kept trying to get past ATS. Once my CV was good, I began going through the interview process with several companies and made multiple final rounds. I ran into delays, rejections, and shifts in hiring priorities.
Instead of letting this get me down, I used the time to improve. I dove into areas like AI/ML, Python, Docker, Kubernetes, Honeypots, and GitOps. I also worked on sharpening my skills in DevSecOps, detection engineering, compliance, and automation. I started hands on projects, like simulating ransomware scenarios, analyzing malware, and running incident response exercises, to build my knowledge, confidence and energy.
Taking care of myself was just as important as staying technically sharp. I made fitness, healthy eating, meditation, and good sleep habits a priority to stay focused and ready for whatever challenge came next. The goal was to be at my best and stay positive.
If you are also having a tough job market experience, don’t let it get you down. Keep learning, know your worth, and do not settle for less than you deserve. Every challenge is a chance to grow and get closer to your goal. Take a moment to look back and appreciate how far you have come.
